Janet Scruggs, Textile Artist
Janet Scruggs has been working with textiles for more than 40 years. Over the years, she has exhibited locally nationally and internationally, winning several awards for her artwork. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary and a Level 3 Certificate in Design and Stitched Textiles (Hand Embroidery) through City and Guilds, London, England. She has developed a passion for educating and mentoring others in fibre and textile arts. Janet was a founding member of the Fibre Optics Group, a group which explored fibre art and mixed media techniques in Calgary. She now resides in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada where she continues to teach design and surface design techniques both online and in person. As a member of the Kamloops Arts Council, Fibre Art Network and Studio Art Quilt Associations, she exhibits her work through these organizations as well as art galleries as opportunities arise.
Janet likes to experiment with various surface design techniques in creating her art pieces, incorporating painting, felting, quilting, hand embroidery, and other mixed media processes. She is an admitted technique junkie and loves to play and explore with these in her creative process.
